Read this before you call anyone

How not to get taken for a ride.

Appliance repair attracts a certain kind of operator. Here is what Scott tells people to watch for — including when they end up calling somebody else.

01Is there really such a thing as a "free service call"?

No. Contrary to what you may be told. Anyone who offers you a "free service call with repair" is still going to charge you a service call fee if they can't fix your machine. The key words to note are "with repair."

02Ask the name of the company that answers the phone

It may not be who you were trying to call. A lot of numbers route to a booking service that sells your job on. Make sure you choose someone who's been around a while — we've been here since 1993.

03Get the exact cost up front, before any work is done

We'll give you the exact cost for all repairs before we begin any work on your appliance, and we get your approval to do the work up front. No discovery halfway through.

04Know the name of the repairman coming to your home

Everyone deserves to know that their home and family are protected. We make sure you know exactly who is coming to repair your machine and when they'll be there.

05Insist on brand new manufacturer's parts

Not second hand parts. We use brand new parts from the manufacturer every time, and those parts come with a manufacturer's warranty, so the repair lasts.

06Never let anyone charge your card before they come out

If a company wants to charge you before they've even looked at your machine — run. No reputable company should or would do that. They might not even show up.

07Do you install appliances into cabinets or countertops?

Most new kitchen appliance installation involves cutting granite, shelving, cabinets or drywall, which we prefer to leave to the stonemasons and carpenters. In some cases we can. We do install washers, dryers, dishwashers, refrigerators, garbage disposals, freestanding ice makers and microwaves — call Scott and ask about your situation.

Who shows up

Two men, thirty-three years, one phone number.

North Dallas Appliance Repair started in 1993 as Scott's Maytag Home Appliance Center, a storefront on Town East Boulevard in Mesquite. Seven years later Scott closed the store to work in people's homes instead. The phone number never changed.

Owner

Scott Glover

Scott has been in the appliance business since the eighties. He grew up in Shreveport, went to LSU, and started out selling appliances for Shreveport Refrigeration. He moved to Dallas as a sales manager for Circuit City and then Ed Kellum and Son before opening his own store in Mesquite in 1993.

After a seven-year run he closed the storefront to concentrate on the repair side, and he has been running it out of Richardson ever since. To this day he is the one who answers every call.

Service Manager · 12+ years

Bobby Jefferies

Bobby has been repairing appliances for over twenty years. He grew up in Dallas and raised four boys in the same house in Balch Springs, where he still lives. He's an avid outdoorsman and spends what free time he has on the lakes and in the woods.

When it comes to a natural ability to fix things, no one is better. He's licensed and insured to work on all major manufacturers' appliances, and he and Scott have been working together for twelve years and counting.
